Amiso Counselling Services is a private non-pharmacological, impact oriented and client-centred social enterprise working in Malawi to promote wellness of the youths.

Our mission is to help the youths prevent and manage stress, anxiety and other mental issues through provision of affordable psychosocial services and a unique practical business management training, coaching and mentorship.

Amiso Counselling Services is inviting qualified candidates to fill the positions of:
Job Tittle:  Psychosocial Counsellors ( 1 full-time, 3 part-time)

Location:  Zomba
Reporting to: The Team Leader

JOB SUMMARY


    • Reporting to the Team Leader, the Psychosocial Counsellor will be required to provide high-quality psychosocial care services and related therapeutic functions to people experiencing psychological and social challenges.

      The candidate is expected to initiate and implement affordable but, effective mental health activities that benefit both clients and Amiso Counselling Services.

      S/he will be required to have such mental health expertise as health promotion, prevention, treatment, peer support and self-help that can help an individual overcome emotional, psychological and social needs.  

      To help improve our service delivery, the incumbent will ensure delivery of the under-prescribed duties and responsibilities in compliance with the Malawian regulations surrounding his profession.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      The duties and responsibilities include:
      Carry out routine psychological assessments/tests on clients in a safe/conducive environment.

      Develop and provide appropriate individual and family based psychotherapeutic interventions for both in person and phone counselling.

      Ensure that all clients benefit from psychosocial counselling assessment.

      Ensure proper documentation and storage of client-related information such as assessment notes, diagnostic records, intervention plan, treatment and client progress records.

      Maintain clients’ privacy and confidentiality at all times.

      Provide mentorship and training in psychosocial counselling services to care givers.

      Get actively involved and maintain professional competence in psychosocial services through the ongoing professional development.

      Undertake other duties as assigned.

      Preparation of reports on weekly basis is a must.

      Qualifications and Experience

      Must have a university diploma or a bachelor’s degree in psychology or psychosocial counselling from a recognized institution.

      Must be able to create affordable but feasible psychosocial activities within our core services.

    At least two years’ experience in providing counselling/psychotherapy including client assessment, implementation of effective psychotherapeutic interventions.

    Experience in program designing, implementation and monitoring.
    Maturity and high respect for clients with psychosocial needs.

    Skills and Abilities Required
    Proficiency in using the computer mainly Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

    Being open-minded and non-judgmental – a must.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Chichewa and English.

    Ability in goals setting.

    Superior interpersonal, leadership, research, time management, organization and evaluation skills.

    Ability to listen patiently, carefully and in a sensitive manner.

    Proficiency in conflict resolution, consensus based decision making and group facilitation.

    Ability to work in a team orientated environment is a must.

    Ability to work over odd hours is essential.
